Got really good news at the doctor’s yesterday. X-rays revealed my bone and ligament were healing nicely. I have 4 more weeks of non-weight bearing on my foot. After two mishaps during this past week and a dreadful night on Tuesday night, I’d been super worried and was so relieved.
Visitor to our boat house looking past my computer.
Mishap one occurred Sunday when I was trying to use my crutches. Made it outside on our front porch just fine. When I turned to come back inside, I lost my balance and nearly fell, catching some of my weight on my right foot. Ouch! I made for my recliner and propped my foot up again.
View Sunday watching family play in lake.
The second mishap came on Monday when I was sitting in my recliner with my foot up. I can hear you saying, “Huh?” LOL Weird I know. Should’ve been very safe.
I had just removed the BOOT and transferred it to my right hand to set it down next to the wheel chair. The Boot is heavy and swung against my ankle. Hit right on one of the staples. Double ouch!!!
So what followed was more swelling, some pain, lack of mobility of my toes without pain (a different situation than earlier) and great worry.
I what-ifed myself almost to death and certainly to higher blood pressure #s yesterday than usual in the doctor’s office. Generally, a positive person, I began to suspect I’d have more surgery in my future.
Originally, I had my foot up, but not above my heart. I appreciate the folks who emphasized the importance of this particular instruction. Remember I’ve never broken anything, so I didn’t understand the importance of really getting my foot above my heart. Not an easy thing to do.
I’ve taken a small break from the recliner to type this blog post. Limiting myself to 15 minutes at a time about 3 times a day. Not much, but best for my foot.
Thanks to everyone who’s sent encouraging texts, FB messages , posts here, and cards. I appreciate your support.
I’m hopeful (perhaps not realistically so) of getting to work on the next book soon. Not in June, but by August.
So how is your summer going? Taking trips? Seeing old friends or spending time with family? Love to hear from you.
My family is soooooo awesome! Thank you! Back to my chair now. 🙂

It just hurt my heart to read where you hit the staple! Glad your news from the doctor was good. Healing is slow but you’ll get there. 🙂

Hey, Jerrie. Until I hit my ankle, I didn’t realize I had staples. Quite an eye opener. Getting them removed was no piece of cake either! Apparently, I’m a quick healer, and skin was growing over them! Yikes! Going out to lunch yesterday with Kathryn was the best part. Thanks for stopping by. It’s a long way, but would love for you to really stop by. 🙂 Marsha

Hey, Susan. The family is such a blessing. I don’t know how folks alone manage with something like this. Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

Hey, Vicki. I have a friend who’s offered the loan of one, but when I fell, I whacked my knee, too, which has always been a bit problematic. So may as time goes on, I’ll take her up on it, but for now, I’m happy with the wheelchair, except that it’s so heavy for my drivers. We have a lighter one, but then someone has to push me. 😦 Don’t care for that one so much. Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

Hi Marsha,
I can’t imagine how uncomfortable it must be with your leg in the air all the time. Sending you lots of positive vibes.
On another note, however, I love the pics of your new home. It looks like my kind of heaven.
Take care,
hugs

Hey, Jo-Ann. Thanks for the good wishes. And yes, if I have to be a captive, I’ve got a great place to be stuck. In reality, I’m better here than at our old house. We had narrow doorways there. I’d have had to use crutches to get to a bathroom. Wheeling is so much better.
I’ll share more lovely pics as we get more settled. Thanks so much for your support and stopping by. 🙂

Marsha, so thankful you got such a good report from the doctor! We will continue praying you totally healed and well. Thank goodness for all your Pilates work. I’m sure that has helped with your strength and flexibility. You do have a great family, that’s for sure!
We are taking the whole family to Disney World for a week this summer (Part1), then Shannon, Eric and the grands, plus Bob and myself, are heading up for a three-day tour of Washington, D.C. led by Bob, on to a tour of Gettysburg, then finishing up at Sight and Sound Theater in Lancaster, PA where we will see Sampson. (Remember Jonah in Branson? This is the original theater.) Erin can only join us at Disney. She has to return to work while we do Part 2 of the vacation. ☹️
Very dry here at our lake this summer. The jet boat is in the water, but the pontoon boat still has to be detailed inside and out, and that’s not happening until July 6, so no leisurely ride on the lake July 4th, but it will be beautiful anyway.
Keep elevating and healing. I’m sure you’re getting lots of ideas for a book from all this!
Love, hugs and prayers from both of us,
Sandy

Hey, Sandy. Wow, sounds like y’all have lots of fun things planned for the summer. Always good to get a change of scene, even when we have such lovely lake views. But going with the family makes it more special. “Sounds” like the show in Sight and Sound Theatre will really be something to “see.” (Sorry. One of my SsIL is a big punner and he’s been on a roll lately–must’ve rubbed off.)
So glad you’re well enough for all the travels. Look forward to hearing about it. Appreciate the prayers so much. Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

Oh my, I screamed ouch at the first mishap, then squenched up my face at banging the injured ankle with the boot, then I laughed. Of course you added that bit about sitting down and knowing what we were thinking how can you have a mishap sitting down? You havent lost your sense of humor. That’s good and good news you are healing. We are in AZ and so happy you advised us not to go farther south in the desert cities. Still hot, but bearable. We hopped in and out of the AC car taking pics of those amazing red rock formations and landscapes around Sedona today. I’ve never seen anything like this in my life. Going back tomorrow. Having a great time even it is hot. Take care.

Hey, JQ. Sometimes when it piles up, you just have to laugh. Glad you’re okay. I’ve been worried about you in the heat. I know it’s dry heat, but still it’s been really bad this year. Yes, it is beautiful in an eerie other world type of beauty. Not to my taste at all. Now the mountains of New Mexico and CO are gorgeous. Love my green trees. I think it’s from spending so many years in El Paso as a kid. Then we moved to Mass. and it was like I was home. 🙂 Snap those pics and hydrate. Look forward to a blog or two about your travels. Thanks for taking time to stop by. 🙂

Sorry about your accidents. Hitting a staple sounds really painful. I did a couple of no-no’s with my knee too. Came out okay though.
Have a relaxing summer by your lake. Looks lovely.

Hey, Kate. Glad your knee surgery was successful. I’m just so impatient. Had so many plans for the summer for fixing the new house for getting the next book ready to release. Tough to do with your foot up in the air. LOL What do they say? Best laid plans… Thanks for stopping by.:)
