Funeral Plans?

On our To-Do List for 2019 is to make our funeral plans. This goal has been on our To-Do list for several years, but this year it’s going to get done. Why you ask is this year different than any other? Well, we’ve lost a few more people than other years. Some younger than us and some our age or only a bit older. Funerals and memorial services tend to get my attention.

In the past, we didn’t do anything because we couldn’t decide whether to do cremation or regular burial, but we’ve finally decided to go with the latter. We’ve picked out the funeral home—it’s where my parents are buried. I’ve made it plain to our daughters that I have no expectation for them to come visit the site. That’s not something I grew up doing and now don’t visit where my parents are buried. I know that’s important for some folks. My theory on everything connected to death, dying, and burial is to do what works for you. What makes you feel most comforted.

I have a form to use for my obit and have begun work on the document. We need to go to the funeral home and arrange for the plots and the caskets, so when the time comes (and who knows when that might be?), the girls don’t have to mess with those decisions. They will already be made.

So, I have some questions for you:

Do you have funeral plans?

How specific are they? Cremation/vs interment in the ground?

Have you written your own obit?

What about the funeral/memorial service? (My mom had mostly done hers, which was so very helpful and is why I’ve long been determined to do that for our daughters.)

Do you find comfort in visiting burial sites of family members?

Subject Change: How many of you will be watching the Super Bowl on Sunday?

Hope those of you in the cold, dark north are staying warm during this Polar Vortex. Would love to hear from you. (And now I’m off to work on the forms.)

February 15 is A Night of Romance at the Haltom City Public Library. Look forward every year to this event.

March 23 is the Home Run Author Event at Arlington Stadium in Arlington smack dab between Fort Worth & Dallas. Tickets still available to see a large variety of Texas Authors.

  1. I have some plans, but can’t decide on which route to go either. I’m not keen on visiting graves. This probably sounds crazy–I have two lovies and asked they go with me as I would hate to see them thrown away and they were loved.

Maybe a bit of Superbowl. I have a weight class at that time.

    • Hey, Vicki. Whatever works for you for sure. I think taking the lovies is sweet. Having a weight class during the Super Bowl is a great idea. Bob will want queso for sure. Not at all healthy, but once a year probably won’t kill me or the scale. LOL Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

  2. Marsha, I love how you share your life with us. So open about everything, even funeral arrangements. Good reminder to us all. Yes, we have our plots picked out in the local cemetery, Maple Grove, no monument chosen yet. Made arrangements with the local funeral director. Cremation or not– kind of hazy on that decision, but my hubby knows exactly what he wants. I haven’t sat down to write obits or choose hymns or Bible verses. I have them in my head, but actually writing it all out in black and white is so, well, final. LOL I think another preparation is to clean out the attic and basement of all the junk accumulated over so many years. And to make sure a Living Will and will are in place as well as an executor of the estate. I’m sure your lawyer hubby has probably taken care of all that.

    • Hey, JQ. I kind of figured y’all would have a bunch of this done. We are a long way from the cleaning out part. We still have unpacked boxes from our move 3 1/2 years ago. You know the kids would appreciate that as much as doing all the funeral plans.Good to have goals. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by.
