Surprising Honor and Sales

Those of you who’ve been reading my blog for awhile know that for quite some time I’ve been very busy with volunteer work at my church. To such an extent that ACT OF SURVIVAL, Book 4 The Second Chances Series is only releasing April 16, 2019 rather than last October, 2018. All the work is stuff I’ve chosen to do, but still there have been consequences.

So last Sunday, I was surprised, humbled, and extremely pleased to be honored by the Presbyterian Women of Ridglea with an Honorary Life Membership. Bob knew they were doing it, and most of the family was present. It was a special moment in my life, and I expect I will remember it always and smile at the love and appreciation expressed.IMG_0979 Lovely roses, a pin, card, and certificate!

We don’t do things with the expectation of receiving recognition. We do things because we see a job that needs to be done, and God has given us talents we are expected to use. I have been more than generously blessed, but certainly couldn’t have done anything without the supportive help of many people. If my actions have been helpful to our congregation and others, then I’m more than happy. The recognition Sunday was…what’s the cliché? The cherry on the top. There’s no way to thank PWR enough for this award.

As you know, ACT OF SURVIVAL releases April 16 and is up for Pre-Order now.

For some reason, Amazon doesn’t allow Pre-Orders if you’re using Draft 2 Digital to publish your book. If you read on Kindle, the book will be available April 16.

I also just learned that D2D doesn’t do print books! I really thought I’d seen that they did. So, I’ve got to figure out how to use KDP for this job. In the past I’ve used CreateSpace, but Amazon swallowed that entity into their organization. I have my work cut out to learn a new system. ☹ Hoping to have print books for a book signing May 4 in Wichita Falls, the setting for ACT OF SURVIVAL. That date is also the 60th Anniversary the Gamma Tau chapter of Sigma Kappa at Midwestern State University. It will be fun to combine the celebration with sisters with the book signing. Fingers crossed I can get the print book uploaded and have print copies in hand for that date. Sigma Kappa (Borrowed from the Gamma Tau FB page!)

My April newsletter will go out early next week because of a 99 Cent Seasoned Romance Sale I’m participating in on the April 10, 11, and 12. Keep an eye out for that.

Call it Seasoned Romance. Call it Mature Romance. Either way, these books are 99¢ December 7-9.

If you’re an author, have you used Amazon to produce a print book since it took over from CreateSpace? How did it work? Readers, how frequently do you write reviews for books your read? Confession time. Before I became a writer, I’d never written a review. Now, if I enjoy a book at all, I write a review. Reviews are so important to help readers find new authors and books. So, if you enjoy any of my books, I’d really appreciate a review. Love to hear from you.

    • Hey, Susan, yes it’s an award that really means a lot to me. I almost didn’t write about it, because I didn’t want to seem to be bragging, but you know I write about what’s going on in my life and that was high on the list. I’m excited about your release, too. Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

    • Hey, Vicki. Just now checking back in here, all day, I’ve been working through the formatting instructions from Amazon so I can have a print of the book. Boy does it make me feel stupid, and the dollars I’ve paid others in the past to do this task now seem well worth it. LOL I’m just stubborn enough to keep on keeping on with it until I get it. (May not do the next one this way though.) LOL Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

  2. Congratulations on your honour, Marsha. That must have been a very touching moment. I like what you write about us not doing these things to be recognised, but it’s lovely to know other people are thoughtful enough to show their appreciation.
I’ve used Amazon to create a print book. Uploading the print manuscript wasn’t too difficult. I did have problems with the cover, though, as their instructions regarding the bar code weren’t clear. If you need any help, please let me know, and I’ll send you a pdf of my cover as an example.
Best of luck on release. I read on Kindle, and I’ll wait till 16th to download!

    • Hey, Helena. Glad to know you’ve managed the Amazon print thing. That’s encouraging. I’m making progress. The page numbers aren’t okay and for some reason a code is making the Table of Contents weird. Plan to work on it again this evening. I need a large block of uninterrupted time. Thanks so much for stopping by. 🙂
