Most summers for the last several years, we’ve taken a family vacation to Red River. This was a tradition we started when the kids were little when Bob had a generous client who let us stay in their two bedroom unit in Lifts West. We have fond memories of those trips, generally taken in August. A couple of times we went during spring break for the skiing. For the longest time, a picture of our older daughter hung in the ski chalet. Pretty cool.
Life happens, kids get older and have their own activities precluding those kinds of family vacations. But after our daughters were married and had children of their own, we told them we’d like to go on a family vacation again and asked where they wanted to go, suggesting the beach or the mountains. We were pleasantly surprised when they both instantly said the mountains, specifically Red River.
So began the recent trips to Red River. We planned to go toward the end of July this year, but then Covid 19 arrived and out of an abundance of caution and with the Texas numbers rising, with much sadness, we canceled.
However, I’m getting to experience Red River in a different manner this summer. TAINTED, my 8th book, with an expected release fall 2020, is set in Red River. As I go through the editing & rewriting process (which at this point involves listening to the book read by my computer 😊), I get glimpses of this charming mountain town. Pictures from various trips jump into my mind in technicolor. So, thinking you might be missing out on your vacation, too, I decided to share some of our favorite pictures with y’all.
I hope you’re managing during this pandemic. Please wear your mask if you go out and social distance. Think we’re in for a long haul. Be safe. Do you have a special place for vacations you return to? Love to hear from you.
