I’m tickled to welcome my friend Carolyn Rae, a fellow member of NTRWA to my blog today celebrating her most recent release. Welcome, Carolyn. Take it away.
Carolyn Rae follows her passion, writing romantic suspense where bullets are flying, people are dying, and lovers must resist attraction until they are safe from danger.
As a teenager, Carolyn Rae told stories to her younger sister on a long road trip. She taught home economics in Michigan, Illinois, and Texas, earned a master’s degree, and also taught English. In Illinois, she did research for a mincemeat company and met her neighbors by knocking on their doors with samples of mincemeat pie.
She taught cooking and supervised ironwork, painting, and carpentry inmates at a Federal prison in Fort Worth, Texas, where she also wrote and directed videos on nutrition and fair fighting for married couples. When she was told she’d be laid off, one of the inmates offered her a job working for him as soon as he was released. As he’d mentioned earlier, he’d been a pimp, she declined. Her experiences at the prison inspired her to write, but instead of finishing a book on prisoners, she became hooked on writing romance and cookbooks.
Carolyn Rae wrote the text and many recipes for There IS Life After Lettuce (Eakin Press, Fort Worth, Texas), a cookbook for heart patients and diabetics. After tasting restaurant dishes, she goes home and tries to make a healthier version to put in another cookbook. During the pandemic, she has cooked up a lot of new recipes, as her husband, daughters, and son-in-law can attest.
Her articles have been published in the Romance Writer’s Report, Fort Worth Star Telegram, The Dallas Morning News, Positive Parenting, and AAA World, Hawaii and Alaska. She has worked as a paralegal for attorneys in Dallas, Fort Worth, and Hurst, Texas.
Carolyn Rae’s latest book, Romancing the Vet, features Amanda Emerson, who picks up a greyhound to foster at the Texas border. When Racer seems hurt, Amanda takes her to the only vet in town, the man who betrayed her. After he discovers drugs sewn in the dog’s belly, Amanda and he must stick together to escape the drug dealers. Luckily, the vet owns a boat on Lake Ray Hubbard, a huge lake next to Dallas. But before Amanda and Thomas can deal with why they broke up, Thomas is kidnapped.
While doing research on drugs smuggled into the U.S. in dogs, mostly puppies, Carolyn Rae learned most of them die soon after. However, a couple that were rescued in Columbia had the drugs removed and matured into healthy dogs. One was even trained to search out drugs and became good at it. She also learned that greyhounds are more sensitive to anesthetics than other breeds, so vets have to be careful what type and how much to give them.

What an amazing career you’ve had, Carolyn. So many stories! I hadn’t heard of puppies being used to smuggle drugs. I’m so glad your fictional dog survives. Many congratulations on your release!

Hey, Helena. I’d never heard of the puppy thing. Makes me ill. What kind of scum do that? And yes, thank goodness the pup in this book gets a HEA. Thanks so much for stopping by and for sharing. 🙂

Sounds like an entertaining read. Who kidnapped Thomas? Hmmm…Yes, I love, love, love cookbooks and enjoy looking at all the possibilities to prepare something different. Most of the time, I don’t have what I need in the pantry to make the dish!

Hey, JQ. I tend to not read cookbooks or watch the Food Network. I’d be cooking and eating all the time. Not good for the waistline, though Carolyn has healthy and good tasting recipes. I don’t even keep flour in the pantry, so when I see a cool recipe that calls for that, I go oh well, and let it go. I’ll check for the link on her site. 🙂 Thanks so much for stopping by. 🙂
