As a young wife and mom, I remember looking at the social section of the newspaper and reading in awe about couples celebrating their 50th anniversary. I remember attending a 50th anniversary party at the country club for a beloved couple in our church family.
The name tags said Bride and Groom. :)
Well, last Saturday was our turn as on June 5 we celebrated our 50th Wedding Anniversary with a smallish gathering at a local Mexican restaurant with family and friends. (This was the project I mentioned in earlier posts taking a lot of my time.)
What specifically was taking a lot of time was putting together a Power Point presentation looking back over those 50 years. It was fun to flip through all the photo albums and pictures on the computer and phone.
This was 10 years after our wedding at a party our church couples group held. We both fit in our clothes.
The big surprise of the evening was when our former minister got up to say grace, which I’d asked him to do a few days earlier. He didn’t immediately do that. Instead, he had us recite our wedding vows. Now, I’ve seen this done in movies, and it was every bit as cool. Maybe more so because it wasn’t planned.
And the cake! Oh, my goodness the cake was scrumptious, and I had more than my fair share over two days, even with giving some of it away.
And the flowers. We had Daisies which we’d used in our wedding and Hydrangeas which have been my favorite since my older daughter met her husband. The flower arrangements he gave her always had Hydrangeas in them.
Many thanks to both daughters for helping with decisions and putting together the flowers and to our SsIL who helped with the technology for the Power Point. Our grands helped with decorating the tables.
And thanks, of course, to my wonderful husband Bob who’s supported me in anything I wanted to do regardless of how expensive it was. Sometimes it was very expensive!
All in all, I couldn’t have wanted a better celebration.
Some of you may remember earlier posts a year or more ago when I wrote about taking the whole family to Maine. I had fun planning that, but I never found the perfect lodging. And ultimately, it became too difficult to get a mutual time for all nine of us. Oh, and we did have this pandemic take over our lives. So just Bob and I will go in October.
Not a bad way to celebrate 50 years.
