One of the things I got to do this week was listen to Ms. Opal Lee in person. You know who she is, right? She’s credited with getting Juneteenth to be celebrated across the country. Because of her efforts, ultimately in 2021 President Joe Biden signed the bill designating Juneteenth as a Federal Holiday. Tuesday Opal Lee spoke to a large gathering of retired educators and friends. The woman is 97 years old/young, and AMAZING. What a life she’s lived and continues to live.

She was 89 when she decided to walk to Washington to bring attention to the issue. She walked 2 ½ miles a day standing for the 2 ½ years it took for the message of freedom to reach blacks in Texas. 89 and she walked 2 ½ miles a day! Regardless of our age, we have no excuse for not doing more for others. And I hope my voice has as much vibrancy and inflection as hers does when I’m her age.
Here’s the link to the book she’s written about Juneteenth. https://amzn.to/408M6Ot I bought copies for my grands, but I intend to read it before giving it to them. 😊 In the pic below, the woman with Ms. Opal is her grandaughter and companion, Dione Simms.

Just a reminder that VULNERABLE is on sale for 99 Cents at all venues through March 18. If you haven’t yet read it, this is a super opportunity. And maybe you have spare time with it being spring break. If you read it, please leave a review. Thanks.

Now this next piece is for those of you who live in the Metroplex. I’ll be attending an author event on Sunday, March 26 from 2-4 pm at Leaves Tea and Book Shop 120 Saint Louis Ave. Fort Worth 76104. Several authors will be there to discuss writing, read from one of our books, and to answer questions. I will have print copies of all of my books available for purchase, so please plan to stop by. I can vouch for their teas. Oh my goodness, they are yummy.

Love that you got to see Opal Lee! She’s amazing!!
